🔎 Word Finder

Find words matching a specific pattern in your text. Supports wildcards (?) for single characters and full regular expressions for advanced matching. Matched results are highlighted — all in your browser, no upload, instant results.

About the Word Finder

This word finder runs entirely in your browser. It searches your text for words that match a pattern you specify, using either simple wildcards or full regular expressions. Matched words are highlighted in the output, and the total count is displayed. Useful for finding words of a certain length, words starting or ending with specific letters, or any complex text pattern. Nothing is uploaded — the search happens instantly with JavaScript on your device.

How it works

  • Wildcard mode — The pattern is converted to a regular expression where ? matches any single character. For example, cat? matches "cats", "cate", "cato". All other characters are matched literally.
  • Regex mode — The pattern is treated as a full JavaScript regular expression. For example, ^[A-Z][a-z]+$ matches capitalized words like "Hello" and "World".
  • Highlighting — Each matched word is wrapped in a highlight span so you can see exactly what was found.
  • Counting — The total number of matches is displayed in the count field.

How to use the finder

  1. Paste or type your text in the input box.
  2. Enter your search pattern.
  3. Choose wildcard or regex mode.
  4. Click Find Words to search.
  5. Matched words are highlighted and counted.
  6. Click Copy Plain Result to copy the text, or Clear to start over.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool upload my text? No. All searching happens locally in your browser. Your text never leaves your device.

What's the difference between wildcard and regex? Wildcard mode is simpler — ? matches any single character. Regex mode gives you full power of regular expressions for complex patterns.

Is the search case-sensitive? Yes, matching is case-sensitive by default. In regex mode, you can use flags inline (though the tool uses the global flag automatically).

What if my pattern is invalid? If you enter an invalid regular expression, an error message will be displayed and no search will be performed.
